Wrong way collision on Interstate 5 in Anaheim sends one person to the hospital – Orange County Register

A wrong-way driver crashed head-on into another vehicle on Interstate 5 in Anaheim early Monday, sending one person to the hospital.

Reports of a driver traveling in the wrong direction were first reported at 12:03 a.m. Monday. Shortly thereafter, the collision was reported on the freeway near Magnolia Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Howard.

Footage showed a crushed SUV and significant damage to the passenger side of a Chevy sedan.

First responders smelled alcohol at the scene and one person was taken to the hospital. Investigators will determine whether alcohol played a role in the early morning crash.

The other driver was tested for impairment and released from the scene.

Officials did not immediately release the identities of the drivers.
