What’s on TV Saturday: ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

The core members of the hip-hop group N.W.A battle a host of challenges to make a name for themselves in “Straight Outta Compton.” And Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy has its premiere on Hulu.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON (2015) on iTunes, Amazon and HBO streaming platforms. The director F. Gary Gray chronicles the formation of the hip-hop group N.W.A, focusing on half of its original members: Eazy E (Jason Mitchell), Ice Cube (his son O’Shea Jackson Jr.) and Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins). Each artist brought distinctive flair to rap. Dr. Dre birthed catchy beats, Ice Cube wrote memorable lines, and Eazy E had an attitude to reckon with. But as they catapulted to fame from Compton in 1980s Los Angeles, forces from within and without (including racism and a manipulative manager) led to rifts within the group and its eventual dissolution. This biopic, named after N.W.A’s debut album, will end its HBO run next Saturday.

POLDARK (1996) on Britbox. John Bowe stars as Ross Poldark, an officer who escaped France after the Revolutionary War only to find that his life in his native Cornwall has been torn apart. His father has died, his former fiancée is engaged to his cousin, and his uncle is determined to sell the family’s mine. With Ross’s return comes his mission to reunite with his love and save the Poldark estate. This television movie is one of many adaptations of the historical novel series by the author Winston Graham. The latest is a PBS “Masterpiece” series starring the handsome Aidan Turner, which airs its third season on Oct. 1.

GREY’S ANATOMY on Hulu. In the previous season of this drama, an explosion at Grey Sloan Memorial left Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) and a young girl trapped in a secluded part of the hospital. After sustaining severe burns and saving the girl, Stephanie decided to put the world of medicine behind her. The reappearance of the presumed dead Megan (Bridget Regan) left Owen (Kevin McKidd) weeping tears of joy. But it will surely complicate the romance of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Riggs (Martin Henderson)….
