Seattle welcomes Santa to town to officially kick off the holiday season at the Macy’s Holiday Parade on Friday, Nov. 24. It’s the 27th year for the festive celebration that fills downtown streets with marching bands, giant balloons and floats leading Santa atop his grand sleigh.

Holiday parade crowd-pleasers include Scottish Terrier, Dalmatian,St. Bernard and Old English Sheepdog clubs, Pacific Northwest Metropolitan Car Club’s decorated vintage cars, Seattle Sounders FC Sound Wave Band, the Mariner Moose, and Seattle Seahawks Blue Thunder, Blitz and Sea Gals. Marching bands from 13 schools play holiday tunes, and a variety of festively costumed groups march and dance their way along the route, including the always-popular Frango candy-tossers.

Other downtown Seattle attractions include the Holiday Carousel in Westlake Park, opening for the season Friday, Nov. 24, for its 30th year hosting riders of all ages through Jan. 1 to benefit Treehouse programs for foster kids. Westlake Park also hosts a Holiday Market with a variety of arts and crafts vendors on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and food concessions daily, this year including the Fisher Scone Truck serving warm, jam-filled scones, a favorite treat at fairs and local events for 100 years.
