The third annual Love La Habra, a celebration of community and the volunteer spirit, will take place Saturday, Sept. 23.
Registration will start bright and early at 8 a.m. at Portola Park, but interested volunteers are encouraged to visit the Love La Habra website, lovelahabra.com, beforehand and select the service project for which they’d like to volunteer. Click on the blue “volunteer” button in the center of the homepage and see all the projects that are available. If a particular project is full and no longer accepting additional volunteers, or if you are not sure how or where you can help, just talk to the folks at the check-in table the morning of the event for assistance.
The event always attracts a big crowd and larger groups from local businesses, churches, community groups and schools are welcome, as well. If you have questions, e-mail the Love La Habra staff through the website. I hope to see you there.
Dances for dads and daughters are planned
The Community Services Department is hosting special luau-themed daddy/daughter dances at the Community Center, 101 W. La Habra Blvd., on Oct. 6 and 7. The event will be offered twice that weekend because last year’s event sold out so quickly and we anticipate a large number of attendees again this year.
The dances will be 6 to 9 p.m. and all girls ages 4 to 13 and accompanied by their father, grandfather, uncle or other adult male guardian are welcome. The evening’s activities include dinner, dessert, dancing, crafts and other activities. Tickets are $20 a person, but must be purchased in advance. For more information, drop by the Community Center during normal business hours, or call 562-383-4200.
Spooky night out for kids
Are you a young person who loves Halloween? Then join the Community Services Department when it hosts its next quarterly Kids Night Out at the Community Center on Oct. 20. The event will feature a special Halloween “Spooktacular” theme and is a perfect bit of fun for kids ages 4 to 13.
Activities will include Halloween games, crafts, dinner, snacks and an age-appropriate movie. Make sure kids bring a blanket and pillow for relaxation during the movie. Parents are required to register in advance; the cost to attend is $15 per child. For more information, call the Community Services Department at 562-383-4200.
