LOS ANGELES – USC’s national championship hopes looked set to take a hit on Saturday, amid a back-and-forth affair with Western Michigan.

The fourth-ranked Trojans exchanged scores with the Broncos for most of the afternoon and fell behind in the third quarter before a late pair of rushing touchdowns by running backs Ronald Jones and Stephen Carr powered them toward a 49-31 victory in their season opener.
