Undersheriff Don Barnes talks about successes and challenges for Orange County law enforcement – Orange County Register

DANA POINT Undersheriff Don Barnes, the second in command at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, addressed dozens of people at the Dana Point Civic Associations’ Coffee Chat on Friday, Sept. 15 at Coffee Importers.

While lauding recent department successes, Barnes also addressed challenges that law enforcement faces in the wake of recent legislation.

Barnes joined the department in 1989 and currently oversees daily operations of the department’s 24 divisions and its contracts to provide law enforcement to 16 Orange County cities. He was appointed second in command to Sheriff Sandra Hutchens last year, and is only the second deputy to rise internally to that rank within the last four decades.
