President Donald Trump tweeted that Stephen Curry, basketball player for Golden State Warriors, is not invited to the White House after the basketball team won the 2017 National Basketball Association Championship.
Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 23, 2017
Trump sent the tweet after Curry said he didn’t want to go to the White House during a press conference Friday night.
Fellow NBA champion LeBron James, who plays for Cleveland Cavaliers, reacted to Donald Trump’s comments via Twitter.
U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain’t going! So therefore ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!
— LeBron James (@KingJames) September 23, 2017
Many supported James’s message, and “U bum” quickly started trending on Twitter.
I can’t wait for @Nike to drop the “u bum” t-shirts 😂

“U bum” is honestly the best insult Lebron could have said. It’s a classic

Others, however, weren’t so pleased with the insult.
Lebron just called @POTUS a “bum.” Very rude, disrespectful way to speak about the leader of the free world.

Other basketball players, including former Los Angeles Lakers team member Kobe Bryant, also shared their thoughts about the president and his decision on Saturday morning.
A #POTUS whose name alone creates division and anger. Whose words inspire dissension and hatred can’t possibly “Make America Great Again”

With everything that’s going on in our country, why are YOU focused on who’s kneeling and visiting the White House??? #StayInYoLane

For President !!!

The behavior of the President is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. If you do not Condemn this divisive Rhetoric you are Condoning it!!
