The Writer’s Mind-boggling Conundrum About To Be Solved?

The book is written, funds have been obtained to edit the book and to produce a wonderful book cover. Editing, formatting and book covers have been successfully and brilliantly done. The book has even been uploaded on Amazon and the author has opened an Author’s page as recommended by pundits.

Now, the only thing to do is for readers to read the book. It is a really good book. The writer is a great writer. Yet, and here is the problem, great writers are not necessarily great marketers.

So, there we are again, another great book that will remain unread, buried under a growing mountain of other books, bypassed by lesser writers simply because they are better marketers.

The flurry of books about vegan vampires that followed the success of Twilight might be a reflection on the popularity of neutered vampires or, more likely actually, a reflection of the ability of marketers turned writers to ride the wave of potential niche market.

Granted, many of these vegetarian vampires books were flops, and those who succeeded met only a relative success, selling a few thousand copies, not becoming the next Twilight.

What this new craze did, however, is to reduce the visibility of other books potentially much better researched, with a deeper character development and historical research, the kind of books that take time to write and are not produced in a three months infatuation with a trending topic.

There are a lot of brilliant self-published books on Amazon. The majority of them will never garner a readership as their authors are dreadful marketers.

There is a ray of hope though, as writers are not the only ones multiplying exponentially these last years, so are start-ups. And some start-ups take writers’ interests at heart.

So expect a solution to writers’ problems in the near future, even if publishers might not be overly happy about it…
