Now there are those of you who might say “I would say that, wouldn’t I” as I am the Chairman of this wonderful service company.  

For those of you who are doubters, however, I urge you to try it and let me know if you are not impressed.  

In any case, I am supposed to be discussing the food that I ate in this city of culinary delights – and I did have two fabulous feasts.  

The first was at The Progress – a really interesting, newish, restaurant, located at 1525 Fillmore Street.  

It sort of looks like a warehouse, and the food is served family-style.  

When you arrive, you are confronted with a menu with many dishes, and the table is urged to choose four of them – two starters and two mains – at least that is how it worked for us.  

We were dining with my great friend, Maryellen Herringer, with whom I have been dining since our close friendship began in the 80’s, when she was named as one of the first general counsels of a large corporation – Transamerica.  

She is a very impressive woman, and I am lucky to be her friend.

Before we even began, we were served roasted carrot with lime pickle yoghurt and crispy tofu and smoked beef black garlic toasted farro.

That which did come was extremely special – flavourful, beautiful and wonderful.  

We first chose  Napa Valley lamb tartare with sesame tahini, spicy chilli oil, bronze fennel and potato bread.  

This tartare was delicious and different, because the distinct taste of each of the ingredients came through with delicacy and distinction.  

It was perfectly accompanied by spiced beef and marrow dumplings with shitake mushrooms, lettuce, ginger and lemongrass vinaigrette.
