Tamerlan Tsarnaev ‘s wife Katherine Russell and daughter Zahara avoid media presence

After Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev died in a gun battle with cops last Friday (April 19, 2013), his wife Katherine Russell and daughter Zahara are under apparent tabloid scrutiny. The 24-year-old widow has been staying with her family in North Kingstown since her husband was killed. Although Katherine Russell seemed keen to avoid the media presence, the mother of one has been photographed numerous times in the past week as she looks to get through what has been a traumatic week. Over the last weekend, she was snapped coming home to her family residence to quickly collect her belongings before departing in a white Volvo. Russell was also spotted wearing a hijab while exiting a car at the home of her parents in Rhode Island. Meanwhile, her 3-year-old daughter Zahara has been plunged into the spotlight since her father Tamerlan Tsarnaev was identified as the main suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. The cute little girl was pictured joyfully playing with her grandmother Judith Russell in the backyard at their home. Then she was quickly hushed back inside after Mrs. Russell spotted watching reporters, shielding her from the huge media attention.

Katherine Russell was arrested in 2007 for stealing $67 worth of clothing from an Old Navy store in Warwick, Rhode Island. At that time, she was 18, unemployed and married though she was living at her parents’ home and didn’t meet Tamerlan Tsranaev until some two years later.

After refusing to speak to federal authorities, the Rhode Island native finally broke her silence on Tuesday (April 23, 2013) as her lawyers held a press conference and spoke to the media on her behalf regarding her husband’s involvement in the bombing.
