Chandigarh, May 1: The first-ever Sub Junior National Hockey Championship for Under 14 Girls is being held at Bassi Pathana, in Fatehgarh District from 20-28 May 2012.
The championship is being held under the aegis of the Indian Hockey Federation, and is being organised by the Pepsu Women Hockey Association and District Women Hockey Association of Fatehgarh Saheb, in association with the Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT).
MBCT is a not-for-profit organization at Bassi Pathana managed by Mejie family who are the NRIs and are dedicatedly engaged in reviving hockey in Punjab by establishing a Hockey Nursery in October 2009 and enrolling 60 boys and girls of 5 to 10 years of age for training.

About 25 teams from all over the country are expected to participate in the ITI Grounds in Bassi Pathana, which will be inaugurated by Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member of Parliament.

‘Hamari Beti’ is an initiative of Rotary Club of Chandigarh against female foeticide in the region, and adopting it as a mascot would give it wider coverage amongst the population in Punjab, who must join in this fight, adds Mr Mejie.
The District Administration of Fatehgarh Saheb has come forward to be the co-host of this event and elaborate arrangements for boarding & lodging, transportation etc for the teams, have been made.
