Style Week OC launches SoCal fall trends – Orange County Register

The return of Style Week OC to Fashion Island Sept. 15-16 heralded the arrival of lush fall fashion and a do-your-own-thing ethos.

“It is a really fun time to get dressed,” noted Emmy-winning journalist and E! contributor Catt Sadler, who attended many of the Style Week events. “There are no rules, so just have fun. Fashion is all about creating yourself, expressively.”

This year, opting for a more engaging, educative and inclusive format than the traditional runways of the past, the focus of Style Week OC shifted to highlight influential panelists who curated fashion trends, Q&A sessions, shopping parties with celebrities and multiple beauty stations. Attendees could see up close what the top industry heads and stars are wearing, wishing for, and what trends they are picking for the season.

The speakers certainly did not fail to impress savvy fashion shoppers. More than 20 panelists joined the series, from the likes of Daniel Musto, a dynamic Hollywood stylist; Emily Cholakian, blogger from “Styletto Beats”; Jill Johnston, a 26-year veteran merchandise manager from Nordstrom; and fashion PR and Neiman Marcus’ stylist Cheresse Pentella, well known for pulling new trends almost weekly and being an expert on the luxury looks of Orange County.

VIPs were treated to a luncheon at Fig&Olive to launch this year’s event. The private affair featured some local Who’s Who, like Audrina Patridge (The Hills) and Lydia McLaughlin (The Real Housewives of Orange County), to name a few. During lunch models took to the runway for a sneak preview of the newest looks for fall.

What stood out most?

1. Great accessories, from statement earrings to clutch bags (and sometimes multiple bags with the one look)

2. Velvet jackets

3. Massive plaid statement pieces, and

4. Cute additions like hosiery socks matched back with heels.

After the runway VIP guests moved to the courtyard area of Fashion Island for a more in-depth discussion with fashion panelists on the season’s trends, and how to wear them well. This really was a candid, open, honest chat, with lots of laughs and brilliant tips.
