StraighterLine and Urban College of Boston Announce Partnership to Offer Affordable College Education for Students in Urban Communities

We are very excited to partner with Urban College of Boston, to assist in bringing affordable degrees to students who had to overcome economic hardships and social and language barriers in the Boston area and beyond.

StraighterLine, the fastest-growing provider of alternative academic credit, has partnered with Urban College of Boston to further their mission to provide a college degree and professional advancement to all students regardless of their economic, social, and language barriers.

Of the partnership, StraighterLine founder and CEO Burck Smith says, “We are very excited to partner with Urban College of Boston, to assist in bringing affordable degrees to students who had to overcome economic hardships and social and language barriers in the Boston area and beyond.”

In accordance with its mission and vision, UCB offers many non-traditional opportunities for its students to facilitate degree completion for those that have historically not been afforded the opportunity. The institution offers alternative locations outside of Boston, multilingual tutorials and classes in Spanish, Mandarin, and Cantonese. This model has resonated with the exact students UCB is trying to reach. Lower income students make up 76% of their student body, and 67% speak English as a second language.

About Urban College Boston

The Urban College of Boston (UCB) is an independent, non-profit 501(c)3 co-educational two-year college established to provide the opportunity for post-secondary education and professional advancement to those in the urban community traditionally underserved by higher education. Urban College grants an Associate of Arts degree in three areas of study: Early Childhood Education, Human Services Administration, and General Studies. The College also offers Certificate programs in 11 areas.

The Urban College began as the Urban College Program within Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. over thirty years ago. In 1993, the College was chartered and is the only institution established by an anti-poverty agency.
