IRVINE – Segerstrom looks ready for the start of Golden West League play after defeating Northwood, 40-12, Friday night at Portola to finish non-league play with a 4-1 record.
The Jaguars have a bye week before opening league against Ocean View on Oct. 6 at Segerstrom.
“I’m happy to come out with a victory coming into the bye week,” said Segerstrom coach Joseph Tagaloa. “We always want to play better every week. We got a little better today, but it was sloppy. We just got to kind of clean it up.”
Segerstrom had 130 yards in penalties but the penalties didn’t turn out to be critical.
“We will get it fixed and we will be ready for our league opener against Ocean View,” Tagaloa said.
Segerstrom had a solid rushing game going against Northwood (1-4). Keith Morales led the way, rushing for two touchdowns and 184 yards on 12 carries.
“Tonight’s victory wasn’t a pretty one but we came out here and did what we had to do and came out with the W,” Morales said. “We can’t do anything, without the offensive linemen, they’re a big part of our running game; they did a great job tonight.”

Kishon Allen was also solid for Segerstrom, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 75 yards.
“We have a lot of talented backs,” Tagaloa said. “Last week, it was Angel Lopez, this week it was Keith Morales and Kishon Allen. We have a couple of threats at all positions so it makes it easy calling plays.”
Northwood, which was coming off a 29-25 victory over Santa Ana Valley last week, was hoping to carry some of that momentum into its bye week.
But the Timberwolves starting quarterback, Trevor Littlejohn, was knocked out of the game following a sack late in the second quarter and did not return.
Littlejohn, with assistance from the Northwood training staff, walked off the field and it’s not known the extent of his injury.
He wound up with 90 yards passing in the first half. Littlejohn connected on a 15-yard TD pass to Alex Aviles in the first quarter to put Northwood ahead, 6-0.
Segerstrom moved ahead, 7-6, on Allen’s 17-yard TD run. Morales then had TD runs of 57 and 6 yards to put the Jaguars up, 21-6.
Littlejohn connected with Seth Locke on a 17-yard TD pass in the second quarter to cut the lead to 21-12.
