Three inspiring mavericks will address the 2017 National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Annual Convention & Trade Show, Oct. 7-10 in Seattle.
Amy Purdy, a top-ranked adaptive snowboarder and bacterial meningitis survivor will discuss how she beat the odds during the Opening General Session on Sunday, Oct. 8 from 10:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Purdy started competing seven months after receiving prosthetic legs, becoming a three-time World Cup Para Snowboard winner, the 2014 Paralympic bronze medalist and the author of “On My Own Two Feet.” She wowed audiences on Dancing with the Stars as the first double amputee contestant and cofounded the nonprofit Adaptive Action Sports.
Jim Donald, former CEO of major companies including Starbucks, Pathmark Stores, Haggen Food & Pharmacy and Extended Stay Hotels will address the General Session on Monday, Oct. 9 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Renowned for turning around financially ailing companies, Donald will explore his hands-on approach to leadership. He was named one of the Top 25 CEOs in the world, and serves as the executive-in-residence for the business program at the University of Washington Bothell.
Snow-capping it off, polar explorer Ben Saunders will address the Closing General Session on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 1:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Leading one of the most ambitious expeditions in a century, Saunders was the first to successfully complete an epic 105-day, 1,800-mile trek on foot to the South Pole retracing Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s ill-fated 20th century journey. An explorer of limits and pure human endeavor, he has completed five North Pole expeditions and holds other Arctic records. Saunders publishes Avaunt magazine and is an advocate for sustainable solutions after witnessing the effects of climate change.
