Santa Ana reels off 52 consecutive points to crush rival Santa Ana Valley – Orange County Register

SANTA ANA – Momentum is a fickle thing as Santa Ana and city rival Santa Ana Valley learned Thursday.

Santa Ana recovered a fumble in Valley territory at the end of the first quarter, and scored 52 consecutive points to come back from a 14-point deficit and pull away to a 52-21 victory in a nonleague game at Santa Ana Stadium.

“We can’t let this game get bigger than what it is,” Santa Ana quarterback Damian Macias said he told his team early in the contest. “Just keep your head in the game, just keep pushing. Let’s fight. Crosstown rivals. We have to claim it for our city.”

Santa Ana (3-1) was again powered by its ground game as Allen Pacheco ran for 206 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries and Macias rushed for 154 yards and two scores on 12 carries.

 

Santa Ana Valley (0-5) started off in control of the contest behind the running of Malcolm Wesley. The senior rushed for touchdowns of 4 and 55 yards as the Falcons built a 14-point lead and forced Santa Ana into back-to-back three-and-outs.

Wesley ran for 111 yards on 27 carries.

On Valley’s next drive, Santa Ana forced a fumble from Wesley at the Falcons’ 43-yard line, and the Saints shifted gears.

Macias broke off a touchdown run of 27 yards to get Santa Ana on the board.

The Saints forced a turnover on downs as Wesley slipped on a punt and attempted run. Pacheco then tied the game on a 24-yard run, 14-14.

On the next drive, Zennen Flores intercepted Valley and ran back a 38-yard return to the Valley seven-yard line.

Pacheco ran in a three-yard TD for the lead, 21-14.

Santa Ana forced another three-and-out and capped off an eight-play drive as Macias was escorted by another caravan of blockers 38 yards for the score, 28-14.

After a penalty re-kick, Santa Ana recovered an onside kick and snuck in a field goal before halftime.
