Santa Ana celebrates Mexico’s Independence Day with one big fiesta – Orange County Register

SANTA ANA – Zaira Chavez said she carries it in her heart: the culture of Mexico.

On Sunday, her 8-year-old daughter Veronica helped bring that culture to life as she danced in colorful costumes at a huge event to commemorate Mexican Independence Day in the heart of Santa Ana.

In all, city officials said some 200,000 people were expected to attend the weekend-long 39th Annual Fiestas Patrias, which included a parade Sunday afternoon with floats, bands, dance and equestrian groups.
