Rosa Parks arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man on Dec. 1, 1955 – Orange County Register

Civil Rights activist Rosa Parks was arrested on Dec. 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama after she refused to give her seat to a white passenger. Her arrest sparked the 381-day boycott of Montgomery buses by African Americans. “The mother of the civil rights movement,” as Rosa Parks is known, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on Feb. 4, 1913. Parks died on Oct. 24, 2005 at the age of 92.
