Remote bomb detection robot most popular at Dana Point Emergency Exposition – Orange County Register

DANA POINT   Despite four helicopters, a SWAT vehicle and the always admired search and rescue bloodhounds, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad robot was the most popular piece of first-responder equipment viewed by thousands Sunday, Aug. 6 during the city’s annual Emergency Expo.

The remote device operates on its own set of tracks and carries a weapon. It can be deployed by bomb squad deputies to check out suspicious packages without risking human lives.

The expo, held at Sea Terrace Park, drew more than 3,000 people and gave community members a firsthand view of state-of-the-art equipment used by local law enforcement during emergency responses.
