Rams can’t complete comeback in home loss to Washington – Orange County Register

LOS ANGELES — Familiarity bred sloppiness, at least it did Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum.

Rams coach Sean McVay’s first game against his former team looked disjointed, and nothing like the Rams’ dominating season-opening win. The Rams trailed virtually throughout, and improved in the second half but fell short in a 27-20 loss to Washington.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Grant with 1:49 remaining to break a 20-20 tie.

On the Rams’ ensuing possession, Jared Goff’s pass intended for rookie receiver Cooper Kupp was intercepted by Washington linebacker Mason Foster with 1:37 left, ending the Rams’ hopes of a second consecutive victory.

Goff finished the game 15 of 25 passing for 224 yards with one touchdown and the fateful interception.
