Orange County couple’s school in Haiti proves stronger than hurricanes – Orange County Register

At a gleaming hospital in Irvine, Steve Toth gently builds a cast around a young woman’s broken ankle, not mentioning the hundreds of people he has helped in far more desperate circumstances.

A colleague drops by and asks about a trip Toth and his wife, Erin, will soon make to Haiti. “How is your school? Was there much damage from the hurricane?”

Without looking up and carefully trimming the hardening fiberglass on the woman’s foot, Toth says, “Some flooding. But the roof held.”

It sounds like a casual conversation. But there is nothing casual about a discussion that includes the words “Haiti,” and “your school.”
