The real star of the expansion draft wasn’t Marc-Andre Fleury or James Neal, it was George McPhee. The general manager’s draft has set Vegas up to be contenders sooner rather than later.

The 2017-18 season is an exciting one in the NHL as it sees the expansion Vegas Golden Knights begin play.

The Golden Knights will play their first regular-season game at Dallas on Oct. 6. They will play their first home game in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena on Oct. 10 against the Arizona Coyotes.

The defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins will begin their three-peat quest on Oct. 4’s opening night as they raise another banner to the rafters before taking on the St. Louis Blues.

The Detroit Red Wings will open their new arena on Oct. 5 in a game against the Minnesota Wild.

As previously announced, All-Star Weekend will take place on Jan. 27-28 as the league will not be taking time off to attend the 2018 Olympics.
