Newport’s Bay Arcade to shut doors this month after 70 years – Orange County Register

The Balboa Fun Zone may soon be a little less fun.

One of its main attractions, The Bay Arcade, which has been providing visitors to the seaside property with Skeeball, pinball games and entertainment for 70 years, is set to close on Aug. 20 after the building was sold and the owner declined to renew its lease.

A doughnut shop will occupy its current space, said arcade manager Jeremy Crawford, who has been working the Bay Arcade for a decade and visited as a child.

Considered a treasure by locals, the arcade has received dozens of calls from concerned residents about the closure, he said.
