Overlooked in the Monarchs’ success is how well the team runs the ball this season. They are averaging 165 rushing yards a game.

2. Mission Viejo 4-0 (239)

This has been one of Southern California’s more entertaining offensive teams for many years. But the Diablos play good defense, too, and did so in 12-7 win over Long Beach Poly.

3. Orange Lutheran 4-0 (228)

Teams the Lancers have played are a cumulative 1-14; not saying that the Lancers have a cupcake schedule because all of those teams have played tough schedules themselves.

4. Santa Margarita 4-0 (219)

Eagles have outscored opponents 201-10. Running back Chad Magyar is averaging 141 rushing yards a game, 10 yards a carry.

5. JSerra 4-0 (212)

Three of Lions’ wins are against CIF-SS Division 1 teams, fueling thought that this is the best Lions team in school history.

6. Servite 4-0 (200)

Friars got those penalty problems under control in 47-14 win over Villa Park. Junior receiver/defensive back Trent McDuffie is looking like one of the better two-way players in O.C.

7. San Clemente 4-0 (193)

Tritons scored 62 points for the second time this season in a 62-27 win over Murrieta Valley.

8. Edison 3-1 (173)

Quaterback Griffin O’Connor returned for Chargers in 28-0 win over San Juan Hills, but All-CIF running back Jack Carmichael suffered possible season-ending leg injury.

9. La Habra 2-2 (166)

Seven touchdowns, seven different players scored them for the Highlanders as they chopped down on Oak Grove, 49-0, on Saturday.

10. Los Alamitos 2-1 (157)

Griffins got their second straight high-scoring win with a 51-6 triumph over Banning of Wilmington.
