A man arrested after authorities seized 715 pounds of marijuana from a truck at Tinker Air Force Base pleaded guilty to a very similar drug trafficking crime in 2015.
Ashot Grigoryan was caught Thursday when he tried to get past the Oklahoma City base’s security guards.
Grigoryan took a plea deal in 2015 for hauling more than 800 pounds of marijuana from California to New York. He served 120 days in prison and was given five years probation, according to the Springfield News-Leader.
The Missouri newspaper reported Grigoryan was caught with drugs disguised as stir-fry sauce.
“This is obviously something he had done before,” said Mark Woodward, with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.
Along with the 715 pounds of marijuana, narcotics bureau agents caught Grigoryan last week with thousands of THC vape oils. Similar to the 2015 arrest, he also had $25,000 worth of chicken in his truck.
“This could be what he does,” Woodward said. “He makes legitimate deliveries around the country but makes side money by putting contraband on his trucks.”
Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics officials said they don’t believe the drugs were destined for Tinker Air Force Base.
The marijuana was actually going to New Jersey. Woodward said Grigoryan was in Oklahoma to make a different delivery when the drugs were on his truck.
