In today’s era of contemporary magazine broadcast, magazines are being redesigned or we can say improved after every few years. I anticipate we can call this 2013, a year of redesigns because so many eminent magazines had elected for the change in the design. Even legendary New Yorker, whose design relatively did not modify from its beginnings, updated its design a bit. The mechanism of redesign happens on much possibility. If there is a fresh editor in chief who has some new concepts that he or she would like to implement. If the publication’s design is antiquated, if the distribution is going down, if the rivalry is getting ahead, if your publication is demanding to gain a new audience…

 

As you can see there are abundant logics for a redesign. So many times editors and publishers wish to make their impression in the world of publishing and they do this by preparing a redesign of previously successful and settled publication. Sometimes the terrific considered publications become obsolete at some point and redesign is the only privilege to freshen up the publication’s appearance and glimpse.

 

Even sales go down and this is a good moment to modify the magazine portrait. But whatever is the bound for the redesign, do not do it just for the gain of redesign. Do not do it flaunt your design skills or because you are tired with the existing design.

When preparing a redesign, make it immense and detectable. There are very few occurrences when only a luster is enough. Make your redesign clear. It should be noticeable to the viewers. A remake may take a few months, so do not rush it. Time can be a protest but this is an even bigger sense not to surrender target. Before doing the redesign conclude what you are not going to innovate. Typography, grid structure, color effects etc.
