Leonardo DiCaprio donates $1 million to Hurricane Harvey victims

Leonardo DiCaprio, Fall Out Boy and Miley Cyrus are the latest stars to pitch in to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

DiCaprio donated $1 million to the United Way’s Harvey Recovery Fund, the organization announced Wednesday night. The Oscar winner has previously donated to disaster relief efforts and victim funds, including after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2010 Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Meanwhile, rock band Fall Out Boy also announced on Wednesday night that it was donating all the proceeds from its upcoming Nov. 7 concert in Houston to Harvey relief efforts. The group will funnel donations to various local organizations through the Fall Out Boy Fund.

Miley Cyrus is also donating through her charity, the Happy Hippie Foundation. Fighting back tears, the singer, who pledged $500,000, told “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” airing today that she was “happy to help any way she can.”

Also today, Beyonce revealed on her website that she is launching her own fundraising initiative through her BeyGOOD Foundation. The Houston native is encouraging fans to donate to the Bread of Life and Greater Houston Community Foundation “to continue our relief efforts on the ground.”

Earlier in the week, the singer released a statement to The Houston Chronicle, saying, “My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help … I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor (Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston) to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”

Celebrities have been opening their checkbooks since Harvey made landfall in Texas on Friday night as a Category 4 hurricane and lingered as a tropical storm over the weekend.

Sandra Bullock donated $1 million to the Red Cross, the organization confirmed to ABC News Wednesday.

“I’m just grateful I can do it,” the Oscar winner, who has a home in Texas, told People. “We all have to do our part.”

She joined other celebrities, including the Rock, Kim Kardashian West and Kevin Hart, who have all pledged to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

At least 13 people have died as a result of Harvey and thousands more have been displaced by historic flooding.

Bullock urged all Americans to come together to help the people of Texas.
