JULY

Mariachi USA Festival

Celebrating a rich mariachi music tradition, the 28th annual event promises to showcase the top mariachi bands from Mexico and the United States, along with traditional folkloric dances and a fireworks display.

Anime Expo 2017

Billed as the largest anime convention in North America, attendees can expect panels, workshops and guest speakers, an exhibit hall with more than 240 vendors and exhibitors of Japanese culture goods, and concerts featuring Japanese music acts.

When: July 1-4, with pre-show event June 30

Huntington Beach 4th of July Celebration

A full day of activities begins with a pancake breakfast and 5K run, has its centerpiece the largest Independence Day parade west of the Mississippi, includes live entertainment and culminates with fireworks launched from the end of the pier.

Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters

Classic paintings and sculptures are brought to life – literally – in an outdoor theater at the Pageant of the Masters, as actors posing in elaborate makeup and beautifully crafted sets that re-create works by the old masters and other talented artists. “The Grand Tour” is the theme of the 2017 show, which will focus on dynamic duos, including artists, patrons, models and muses. Each ticket also allows admission to the Festival of Arts grounds, where original works by 140 artists are on display and available for purchase.

When: Festival of Arts begins July 5 and the Pageant starts July 7; both end Aug. 31
