Midtown Manhattan will be getting another hotel devoted to fitness.
Global hotel giant InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a deal to open the second location of its pioneering mid-priced EVEN Hotels brand focused on wellness and fitness.
The company is announcing today that the second property will be located at 321 West 35th Street in midtown Manhattan, in the Garment District near such attractions as the Empire State Building and Times Square.
The 150-room, 25-floor hotel will be a new build rather than a conversion, and will open in mid-2015.
It will have public work spaces, dining and social areas. But the hallmark of the property will be a state-of-the-art, larger than normal gym.
It will join the flagship location set to open in a newly built tower near Grand Central Station at 219 E. 44th Street. That 230-room hotel is scheduled to debut in 2015 as well. An ownership group led by developers Frank Chan and Lance Steinberg is financing both properties.
IHG launched EVEN Hotels in 2012 after its research suggested that there are 17 million people who struggle to exercise and eat well while on the road. The gym will have three zones: one for cardio, one for weightlifting and another for yoga and mat exercises.
Each room will have fitness equipment such as exercise balls. Organic and fresh meals will be available from morning to night. There also will be signature smoothies and fresh juice and free flavored water to take up to the room.
For the business traveler and hyper-connected leisure traveler, the hotel will offer free Wi-FI. IHG also recently announced that all its loyalty club members will get free Internet access starting in July.
