Idina Menzel, the Broadway and Disney star of magical musicals, announced Monday she got married over the weekend and “it was magical.”
Menzel, 46, said in a tweet she married her partner, actor/singer Aaron Lohr, 41, at their home, and that her father and son walked her down the aisle.
“Wanted to let you know… Married the love of my life #aaronlohr this weekend @ our home. Dad & son walked me down aisle. It was magical,” her tweet said.
Later Monday, she tweeted two pictures of the bride and groom at the wedding.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make my wedding day so special,” one tweet read.
Menzel, best known as the star of Wicked on Broadway and as the voice of Elsa in Frozen, announced her engagement to Lohr in September 2016, via tweet.
“As if this week couldn’t get any better I have wonderful news… my man and I are engaged! We are so happy. It’s a beautiful time,” she posted.
Menzel and Lohr have been a couple since at least April 2015 when they attended the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner together. They met a decade earlier when both were in the cast of Rent, the hit rock musical that opened on Broadway in 1996. (Rent is set to air live on Fox in January.)
Menzel, a Tony Award-winner, previously was married to actor Taye Diggs, who also was in Rent; they divorced in 2014 after nearly a dozen years of marriage and one son, Walker, 8.
Menzel recently starred in a remake of the 1988 film Beaches (in the Bette Midler role), which aired on Lifetime in January. She’s also set to voice Elsa again in Frozen 2, scheduled to be in theaters in 2019.
Idina Menzel says it was “daunting” following Bette Midler’s lead in the remake of 1988 tearjerker “Beaches.” (Jan. 20)
