Huntington APA students play in the real world at Mama’s on 39 – Orange County Register

For many aspiring musicians, the first step toward a career in the business begins with a local gig.

With that in mind, Mama’s on 39 has invited students and alumni of the Music, Media and Entertainment Technology program at Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts to play acoustic sets for its guests once a week, usually on Thursdays.

The “Listen to Your Mama” series, which the Huntington Beach restaurant kicked off June 22, will run through the 2017-18 school year. A dozen or so students are part of each week’s show.

“It’s a win-win situation for both the kids and Mama’s on 39,” said Anthony Grisham, a college student who helps manage the residency program. “The students not only provide the restaurant with entertainment, but also get a taste of what it’s like in the real world as a musician.”
