High school girls soccer: 5A team-by-team region capsules

With the 2017 high school girls soccer season getting underway this week in what should be another fantastic season, the Deseret News has compiled capsules for every 5A team in the state with information on what to expect this season.

The region rankings are based on coaches’ preseason projections. Every coach was invited to participate and submit information on their team.

There are four new head soccer coaches in 5A this year: Brett Harris (Box Elder), Alyssa Foutz (Roy), Brett Rosen (Brighton) and Jeff Lewis (Maple Mountain).

Here’s a region-by-region look at all 24 teams in 5A

REGION 5: 1. Viewmont High School

2017 schedule

Head coach: Spencer Keddington (fourth year)

2016 record: 14-4-1 (Second in Region 2 with 9-2-1 record)

2016 postseason: Lost to Fremont in quarterfinals

Coach comment: “We graduated a lot of seniors last year, but have some good experience and talent returning. We are looking forward to the season competing in our new region.”

2. Woods Cross High School

2016 record: 16-3-1 (Second in Region 5 with 9-2-1 record)

2016 postseason: Lost to East in semifinals
