Here’s the L.A. Film Critics Association’s complete list of winners for its 2017 movie awards – Orange County Register

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association celebrated an exceptionally good year of movies by sharing its 2017 awards wealth around among the most distinctive works of the year.

“Call Me by Your Name” could be considered the one most honored, with three awards that included the group’s Best Picture. But “The Shape of Water” also won three, “Lady Bird” took two and – I’m not just saying this because I’m a member of the group – I can assure you that all of LAFCA’s 2017 awards will prove cooler than what you’re going to see at the Academy Awards in three months.

Here’s the list, with a little bit about each winner:

Picture: “Call Me by Your Name,” the lovely film about an Italian summer of personal discovery.

Director: A big ol’ tie between Guillermo Del Toro (“The Shape of Water”) and Luca Guadagnino (“Call Me by Your Name”).

Actor: Timothee Chalamet for his smart, romantically plunging “Call Me byYour Name’s” young man.

Actress: “Shape of Water’s” soulfully mute Sally Hawkins.

Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe, “The Florida Project’s” empathetic, exasperated motel manager.

Supporting Actress: We really love ’em all, but Laurie Metcalf got crowned for her “Lady Bird” mother of all moms.

Screenplay: Jordan Peele’s audacious, imaginative reconstruction of race and genre “Get Out.”

Cinematography: “The Shape of Water’s” unlikely but gorgeous/ugly fantasy/realist images by Dan Laustsen.

Ana de Armas as Joi and Ryan Gosling as K in “Blade Runner 2049.”

Production Design: “Blade Runner 2049’s” Dennis Gassner, for among other things making gigantic holographic sex workers appear poignant.

Editing: Lee Smith’s time-bending (mind-bending too) ”Dunkirk” cutting.

Music/Score: “Phantom Thread” for Jonny Greenwood’s lush yet psychologically loaded, ’50s style score.

Animation: Irish-made Afghanistan-set beauty “The Breadwinner.”

Foreign Language: Tie between epic French AIDS activism study “BPM” and Russian teeth-grinder “Loveless” by Andrey Zvyagintsev.

Documentary/Nonfiction: The group went with Agnes Varda and JR’s visually imposing, wonderfully openhearted “Faces Places.”
