Goldenvoice to bring more music to the Queen Mary in 2018 – Orange County Register

The Queen Mary  is about to get more musical. The Long Beach attraction will host more concerts and festivals in 2018 thanks to a new partnership with the company that puts on the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Goldenvoice, the force behind Coachella, has teamed up with Urban Commons, the ship’s leaseholder, to put on more large-scale music festivals at the ship.

“I’m super excited about this. We are in a partnership with one of the best companies out there to do live entertainment; Goldenvoice has a far reach,” said Dan Eisenstein, director of entertainment events for Urban Commons.

Besides Coachella, Goldenvoice also puts on Stagecoach Country Music Festival and operates Los Angeles venues such as the Fonda Theatre, El Rey Theatre and the Shrine Auditorium. The company promotes more than 1,400 concerts a year in California, Nevada, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii and Canada.

The Queen Mary, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its arrival in Long Beach this month, is already a busy concert and events attraction.

Since arriving in 1967, the ship has hosted concerts by performers like Lou Reed, the Beach boys, the Wu-Tang Clan, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Smokey Robinson, the Offspring, Sublime, Ice Cube and the Flaming Lips.

The Queen Mary has hosted a number of large-scale events, including the Rock the Queen alt-rock festival, the Shipkicker country festival and the recent Tropicalia Music and Taco Festival, with artists such as Lee Brice, Justin Lynch, Los Tigres de Norte, Cafe Tacvba, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray and Royal Machines performing.

Eisenstein said that Goldenvoice will exclusively operate the musical events at the attraction, but he expected signature in-house events Shipkicker and Rock the Queen to return. He said Goldenvoice would work in conjunction with the Queen Mary and outside producers to bring back favorites like Summertime LBC, One Love and Tropicalia.
