A garbage truck fire underneath the Metro North railroad in Harlem briefly shut down service in and out of Grand Central Terminal Wednesday night, according to MTA and Fire department officials.

Fire department personnel responded to East 119th Street and Park Avenue at approximately 11:20 p.m. where, on arrival, they were met with a fully engulfed garbage truck shooting flames up to the elevated tracks.

The MTA briefly cut power to the Harlem line while the FDNY battled the blaze, halting service in and out of Grand Central from 11:50pm to just after 12:30am, according to Transit officials – who expect normal service for the morning commute.

There were no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighter personnel.
