‘Fear the Walking Dead,’ ‘Miss America,’ ‘Good Place’ and Angelina Jolie’s latest – Orange County Register

Catch up on

The Good Place: (Available on Netflix) The NBC comedy created by Michael Schur (“Parks and Recreation”) returns for a second season on Sept. 28. If you didn’t catch it last year, do so now. Kristen Bell plays Eleanor Shellstrop, a bad person who was slated for the bad place after her death, but due to a clerical error ends up in the good place. Heaven? Not exactly. It’s kind of a utopian hell run by Michael, the well-meaning angel-architect played by Ted Danson. Eleanor has been assigned a perfect mate, Chidi (William Jackson Harper), a Senegal-raised moral philosopher, but all she can think about is being caught as a bad person. At first, you might wonder how can Schur possibly sustain this absurdist high-concept premise, but it’s so clever you keep watching. Then when you think you’ve got it figured out, “The Good Place” stunningly pulls the rug right out from under you and resets for a new season.
