Donald Trump’s White House gets a full face-lift

The White House is undergoing a major face-lift while Donald Trump stays at his New Jersey golf club.

The US president is mid-way through a 17-day stay at his Bedminster club while the renovations are carried out.

The Oval Office and other working quarters of the West Wing have been cleared of furniture while crews work on upgrades, including to the heating and air conditioning system. Lindsay Walters, a White House spokesman, said the system is 27 years old.

Workers also are fixing leaks, repairing the South Portico steps, renovating the Navy mess kitchen and West Wing lower lobby, and updating the IT system.

Sean Spicer, Mr Trump’s outgoing press secretary was at the White House and appeared to be having fun.

Mr Trump was said to have been critical of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in a report earlier this month.

“That White House is a real dump,” claimed Mr Trump told members at his Bedminster golf club.

However, the president hit back, saying he was misquoted and slamming the report as “fake news”.
