Cooling Solutions for Data Centers

Anyone running and operating a data center knows just how important it is to have proper cooling solutions in place. Without them, servers can fail and shut down, leaving many customers very unhappy. And if you’re not careful, those servers could end up being irreparably damaged, too. Luckily, there are many cooling solutions that data centers can employ.

Reduce your floor space

Business owners and data center operators know that the more cramped and crowded your space is, the hotter it’s going to get – and the more quickly it will happen. However, reducing the amount of floor space your servers are currently taking up is not about stacking them in cramped or crowded spaces. Instead, it’s about using floor space more efficiently. If you have a large space, with servers located in random spots, you’re also cooling that entire space when you may not need to. Move racks and servers closer together, cool only that space, and you’ll not only do a better job at cooling the equipment, it will be cheaper for you too.

Rack chimneys

Everyone knows the function of a chimney – to remove hot air from a space and keep it cooler, as well as safer by exhausting fumes. This concept can be used in data centers too, with phoenix data center staff creating the chimneys themselves. No outside work or extra technology is needed. By installing chimneys right over the racks of servers, not only will hot air be taken away from them much more quickly; but it will also stop hot air from mixing with the cooled air – something else that will save you money.

Keeping servers new and up to date

Remember that the only reason data centers have to cool their servers in the first place is because they run too hot. And often those servers run too hot because they’re not operating efficiently.
