Everything points to 2012 being Blackpool’s Year.
The best of British holiday resorts is all ready to help you celebrate the feel-good factor that will be generated by the Queens Diamond Jubilee and the staging of the London Olympics which will be preceded with the Olympic torch passing through Blackpool in June.
Blackpool has plenty to shout about as well as London with the arrival of the new super trams and late season celebrations to mark the 100 hundredth anniversary of the world famous Blackpool Illuminations.
After several seasons when the seafront resembled a giant building site, the resort is proud to greet visitors, old and new, to it’s terrific new headlands. Many old friends of Blackpool will recall when the Promenade was a long straight line of iron railings! Not anymore! Radical change as part of major regeneration has seen a series of giant headlands created along the Fylde coast from Blackpool South Shore by the Pier up to beyond Blackpool North Pier at North Shore giving much more space for visitors to explore, in many places traffic plays second fiddle to pedestrians.
The new headlands, part of hi tech sea defences are also the setting for special events throughout the year and to mark the launch of the Blackpool Tower Festival Headland, there are special summer concerts by the likes of International superstar Elton John and Boy Band sensations The Wanted and McFly. The Illuminations season kicks off in its anniversary year on Friday 31st August 2012 when the lights will be switched on in a showpiece ceremony and concert which will also be taking place on this headland.
So whether on a short break, a longer holiday or just in Blackpool for a few days visitors will have to return to take everything in – the UK’s most famous, popular premier seaside resort has got it all. Boasting the longest season of the lot, it is packed with enough undercover attractions to become a year round destination, whatever the weather.
How many other British…
