Clarkson named to replace Belanto as Woodbridge girls basketball coach – Orange County Register

Keith Clarkson, who has been an assistant coach under Pete Belanto and Eric Bangs since the 2012-13 season, has been named the new head girls basketball coach at Woodbridge, Athletic Director Rick Gibson said Tuesday, June 26.

“We are excited about this hire,” Gibson said. “Keith has been with us for a number of years assisting both Eric Bangs and Pete Belanto.

Clarkson replaces Pete Belanto, who resigned earlier this month after nine years with the program.

Clarkson started working at Woodbridge in the 2011-12 school year.

“I was the head varsity girls basketball coach at Garden Grove High School for 10 seasons (1993-2005),” Clarkson said. “After Garden Grove I coached the varsity girls team for one year at Laguna Beach High School while I was doing my student teaching. I also coached the varsity girls swim team at Garden Grove for 13 years.

Clarkson has also coached water polo and baseball. He plans to set the goals high for the Woodbridge program, which has been one of the top programs in the county over the years.

“Our goal has always been the same: to win the league championship, so we’re trying to put the pieces together now,” he said. “We have a nice core coming back.”
