City worker busted for kiddie porn has history of possession

He was a convicted child-porn perv — and so mentally challenged that he dodged the sex-offender registry and was made a court ward of his mother — but that didn’t stop the city’s hospital system from hiring him.

Daniel Sherlock, 28, of Long Island had already pleaded guilty to obscenity for computer kiddie-porn possession when he was hired by the city Health and Hospitals Corporation in June 2016, records show.

The 2015 charges were pleaded down at the time because of his developmental delays, sources said, leaving Sherlock off the sex-offender registry — but still on probation.

Law-enforcement officials said HHC definitely dropped the ball when it gave Sherlock the gig while he was still on probation for a computer-related crime.

“They didn’t do the proper vetting,” the source told The Post, noting that a simple Google search would have sufficed.

Indeed, HHC only sent Sherlock’s file to the city’s Department of Investigations months after it had already hired him, one source said.

DOI is often tasked with conducting added due diligence on certain city workers, including those who toil on city computers.

City officials had no answers when asked for the second straight day about Sherlock’s hiring.

Citing “on-going legal action,” an HHC spokesman declined comment.

Sherlock’s past and HHC hiring only came to light Wednesday, when Manhattan federal prosecutors charged him with downloading explicit pictures of underage girls in sex acts with adult men on his work computer.

After his arrest, Sherlock allegedly told prosecutors that he accessed the porn on his work computer because he no longer has a computer at home because of his conviction.

Ketover sought to allay Sherlock’s culpability by describing him as “a nice kid” with “a severe developmental disability” who “doesn’t necessarily understand everything that’s going on.

“I can tell you my interactions with Danny….
