Cheap gas means millions will hit the road – Orange County Register

If you’re traveling for Independence Day, you’re in luck. The lowest gas prices in 12 years for this holiday weekend mean you and 2 million other motorists will be hitting the road across Southern California.

Gas prices are the lowest they’ve been both nationwide and locally since 2005, according to GasBuddy and the Automobile Club of Southern California.

It’s the first time in GasBuddy’s history tracking prices that gas will be cheaper nationwide on July 4 vs. Jan. 1.

Nationwide, motorists will pay an average of $2.21 per gallon. The average price in the last 10 years was $3.14, according to GasBuddy. In Southern California, it will be closer to $2.90.
