Bitnami, the leading provider of packaged applications for any platform announced today that it has collaborated with Serverless.com to develop a Kubeless plugin for the popular serverless framework. The combination of the Kubeless open source project and the Serverless.com solution delivers the first kubernetes-native offering supported by the Serverless toolkit.
At 18,000 stars on GitHub, the Serverless Framework is the go-to developer tool for deploying serverless events and functions. Serverless Framework brings a common interface to all serverless solutions via a CLI tool that allows users to build & deploy auto-scaling, pay-per-execution, event-driven functions. Users can develop, test and deploy in a single environment, to any cloud provider including AWS Lambda, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, IBM OpenWhisk, and now with Bitnami’s Kubeless project, to an on-premise kubernetes cluster.
“We are thrilled to team up with Bitnami to create a plug-in that will empower our users to create on-prem serverless solutions,” said David Wells, Senior Developer Advocate at Serverless. “Kubernetes is quickly becoming the industry standard for container orchestration and we’ve heard time and time again, when will serverless move into this space? That time is now.”
Bitnami continues its thought leadership in application packaging by creating and contributing to the next generation of tools to simplify the building, deploying and maintaining of distributed applications that are being enabled by containerization and serverless computing. One key Bitnami initiative has been the work on the Kubeless kubernetes-native serverless platform. Kubeless provides a function as a service solution that runs on top of a Kubernetes cluster, delivering a serverless implementation out of the box that is CLI compatible with Google cloud functions and supports Python, Nodejs and Ruby language runtimes.
“We are excited to be working with the Serverless team to make the Kubeless offering available on the defacto standard serverless framework in the industry,” said Sebastien Goasguen, Senior Director Cloud Technologies, Bitnami ”It feels good to respond to user demand from both sides and deliver something that the thought leaders in this space were asking for.”
