Angels blow 5-run lead in ugly loss to last-place A’s – Orange County Register

ANAHEIM — The Angels, who can’t afford to lose any winnable games as they chase a playoff spot, have now done just that on a second consecutive ugly Sunday.

After leading by five runs in the seventh inning, the Angels lost 11-10 to the Oakland A’s, a week after they blew a six-run ninth-inning lead in Toronto.

Those are two of the Angels’ three losses in the past nine games, all against last-place teams.

This one wasn’t quite as jaw-dropping as last week’s, because the lead vanished more gradually and earlier.

Leading 10-5 after six innings, the Angels let the lead get away on the watch of three of their most dependable relievers. Yusmeiro Petit gave up a run in the seventh on a Chad Pinder homer. In the eighth, Blake Parker gave up two on a Khris Davis homer. It snapped Parker’s streak of 27 straight home games without allowing an earned run.
