9 high school exchange students from around the world return to Orange County 45 years later – Orange County Register

COSTA MESA – Mimi Shadfar flipped through an album of black-and-white photos Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 9, scanning the faces of teenagers enjoying the Orange County scene of the early 1970s.

Then she stopped.

A young woman, 18 at the time, smiled at the camera. She wore high-waist pants, a psychedelic sweater and black hair halfway down her back. A young man’s hand rested on her hip.

“Naji,” Shadfar, 64, said with a laugh, “why is your hand on my waist?”

Shadfar is from Iran; Naji Allouche, now a Laguna Hills resident, is from Lebanon. Their gathered friends were from Belgium, Great Britain, Ecuador and Argentina, Austria and Australia.
