2017 UCLA football schedule and analysis – Orange County Register

UCLA is trying to bounce back from a disappointing 2016 season, but faces a tough schedule, starting at the top with another season opener against an SEC opponent. Here’s a game-by-game look at what the Bruins face this year:

SUNDAY VS. TEXAS A&M

4:30 p.m., Rose Bowl

The Bruins hope this sequel is better than the original. Josh Rosen returns after an 11-month game absence as UCLA seeks revenge from last year’s season-opening overtime loss.

SEPT. 9 vs. HAWAI‘I

2 p.m., Rose Bowl

Hawai’i is coming off its first bowl win since 2006, but is still a ways away from challenging UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

SEPT. 16 AT MEMPHIS

9 a.m., Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, Memphis, Tenn.

A rising Memphis team could make for a trap game. The Tigers have nine returning starters on offense and have lost only four times at home the past three years.

SEPT. 23 AT STANFORD

TBA, Stanford Stadium, Palo Alto

Last year, the Bruins were 24 seconds away from securing their first win over Stanford since 2008 and will have to try to break the streak on the road this season.

SEPT. 30 VS. COLORADO

TBA, Rose Bowl

Last year’s Pac-12 South champion will likely take a step back after losing eight defensive starters and defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt, but the Buffaloes do have one of the best receiving corps in the country.

OCT. 14 AT ARIZONA

TBA, Arizona Stadium, Tucson, Ariz.

The Bruins have won four in a row against the Wildcats, who finished last in the Pac-12 South last year.

OCT. 21 VS. OREGON

TBA, Rose Bowl

UCLA will face Oregon for the first time since 2014 and try to snap a six-game losing streak in the overall series.

OCT. 28 AT WASHINGTON

TBA, Husky Stadium, Seattle

Riding the momentum of a College Football Playoff appearance and its first conference title in 16 years, Washington is the overwhelming favorite to win the Pac-12 North.

NOV. 3 AT UTAH

6:30 p.m., Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City

This is the most difficult two-week stretch of the year for UCLA. The Bruins have to travel to Seattle for a Saturday game, then go to Salt Lake City six days later.

NOV. 11 VS. ARIZONA STATE

TBA, Rose Bowl

Arizona State gave up the most points per game in school history last year and has new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

NOV. 18 AT USC

TBA, L.A. Coliseum

The annual rivalry might finally feature the blockbuster showdown between Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen as the Bruins try to snap a two-year losing streak to the Trojans.

NOV. 24 VS. CALIFORNIA
