Theresa May makes U-turn as higher earners WON'T be charged more for council homes

Ministers have killed off George Osborne’s policy to force families on modest incomes to pay higher council house rents. Under a law announced by the then-Chancellor two years ago, households with incomes above £40,000 in London and £30,000 outside the capital would have seen sharp increases in their rent bill. But last night Housing Minister Gavin Barwell said the plan would have hurt ‘ordinary working class families’ and would not have saved much money. UPDATE 1-Exxon says fire hits giant Baton Rouge refinery

(Adds Exxon statement) HOUSTON Nov 22 A fire hit ExxonMobil Corp’s refinery and chemical plant complex in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the company said on Tuesday. The incident was the third in two days to hit Gulf refineries, taking the total refining capacity impacted to over 1.1 million barrels per day and pushing up the cost of gasoline relative to other fuels. Local media reported that around five people had been injured in the fire, which broke out at a gasoline-producing alyklation unit.
