UPDATE 2-U.S. SEC adopts rule on oil, mining payments to foreign governments

Monday, June 27th, 2016:

WASHINGTON The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday approved a rule requiring oil, gas and mining companies to disclose payments made to foreign governments, capping a process stalled in the courts for years. The rule requires companies to state publicly starting in 2018 how much they pay governments in taxes, royalties and other types of fees for exploration, extraction and other activities. It will “provide enhanced transparency,” SEC Chair Mary Jo White said in a statement. More of Orange County hit by West Nile virus

Mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus have been found in more Orange County cities than in previous years at this point in the season, with a lack of rain and recent heat waves fueling breeding, mosquito control officials said Monday. Since May, when the first mosquitoes tested positive in La Habra and Seal Beach, infected mosquitoes have also been found in Anaheim, Irvine, La Palma and Orange, according to the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District.
