October 7-8, Balboa Park hosts this celebration of technology, arts, crafts, science, and the Do-It-Yourself mindset for innovative, creative people who like to tinker and love to create, and also for those curious minds who want to see and get hands-on with new and innovative things coming just around the corner.
This multi-museum event showcases innovation in San Diego. To maximize the experience, event-goers are strongly encouraged to “complete the circuit.” Over 250 local and regional makers display their creations at Balboa Park—mostly inside participating museums. Each circuit will hold a different array of makers and activities. Some of the can’t-miss makers for 2017 include:
3 Paws Up— Karolyn Smith is the 2014 Veteran of the Year for the 71st District, Speaker, Author and innovative 3D prosthetic creator for her amputee cat, Sophia, the Ambassador for the San Diego Humane Society.
- Cupcake Cars—The San Diego Makers Guild, OSML and FabLab collaborated to create amazing cupcake cars built on mobility scooters. Come see inside a cupcake car!
- SDSU Rocket Project—San Diego State University Rocket Project is a college team that is focused on designing, fabricating, launching and receiving data from liquid bi-propellant rockets as well as researching emerging technologies to utilize on future rockets.
- FIRST Robotics Competition Teams—An annual competition in which high school level students across the world have just six weeks to design and build robots. These robots compete in a game that changes every year.
- Junkcade—Feast your eyes on the junkiest arcade games this side of Junkville. Games are constructed from everyday items and programmed with Scratch, a kid-friendly programming language. You’ll never look at a toilet plunger the same way again!
Advance tickets are available through October 6 with savings of 20% and up. Tickets provide access to the entire Maker Faire San Diego footprint, including general admission to these museums and exclusive outdoor venues:
