10th annual Blessing of the Waves in Huntington Beach – Orange County Register

Few cities have the same spiritual connection with the ocean and waves as Huntington Beach.

So, it’s no accident thousands come out every year for the Blessing of the Waves, now in its 10th year.

On Sunday, Sept. 10, surfers, beach-goers and faith and government leaders stopped by the Huntington Beach Pier for the popular interfaith event.

The blessing event was created by the Rev. Christian Pondor, the “Surfing Padre,” and has grown and evolved into a multifaith celebration.

Its purpose is to “recognize the significance of water in our lives, especially HB where it is not just a lifestyle, it is part of our economic engine,” according to a statement by the Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council, which now oversees the event.
